It's funny how bars come and go. Once this was the IN joint to go, very swanky, very big city feeling, then a new club pops up and suddenly the staff have only themselves to stare at. Maybe downsizing and swapping joints with The Red Room is a good idea. We'll see.

Experience
Pair is a great place to enjoy a good meal with a high-class atmosphere seldom found in this town. As a restaurant, Pair is a heck of a lot more impressive than, say, Denny's, but it really only appeals to the hoity-toity crowd. The place excels for business lunches, impressing the clients, or trying to prove to your date that you're really not broke and still living in your parents' basement. They also serve Guinness, even though I've never seen anyone there use the 90-second pour. Shame on you!
It's also a great place to sometimes just sit and chat with friends over after-work drinks while watching people dance.
Unfortunately, as a bar Pair is very hit and miss. Is it going to be chill and a great place to drink and hang for a while, or are you going to have to scream to be heard over the DJ, or are you and the barkeep going to be the only signs of life? You never know what to expect.
For what was once a very swanky place, people certainly seem to be noticing Pair's coin-flip atmosphere. Me and several members of the Uncle Boise family found ourselves Downtown last Halloween. All of the bars and clubs were packed, as you would expect, and we floated from place to place, managing to avoid the lines at most places thanks to Madame Amber's fishnets. Our last stop of the evening was a mostly-deserted Pair, where we enjoyed drinks and a chance to talk without shouting in each other's ears. For the guys in our group, an added bonus was watching one of the very beautiful ladies who works there make out with her girlfriend on the couch next to us.
That alone will keep me going back.
Hugh was offered a starring role in the locally made Indie flick, My Own Private Idaho Potato, but turned it down due to being notoriously camera shy.
