Experience
Catering mostly to the after-work crowd at HP and the surrounding businesses located in the Boise Research Center, Stubs is a good place to kick back, watch a game, and have a cold one. You can even sample from their menu of sports-hero named pub-style grub. I especially recommend the Hank Aaron with a pint of Guinness to take the edge off of another day in cube-hell. One thing you should know: Stubs ain't exactly high-class. They don't even offer fries; you get a little baggie of potato chips with your sandwich. Of course, you can always order a pickled egg. Really. I wish I was kidding. Stubs is known for its occasional pickled egg eating contest. Not even Crandal Boudreaux would eat a pickled egg.
Like most other sports bars, Stubs is only a rung or two up from a snazzy dive bar, but what really impressed me about this place the first time I visited was the fact that the barkeep knew the two-step pour for a Guinness. Someone was obviously paying attention during Mixology 101. Bravo! All the rest that just pour and go, I hope you choke on a marchino cherry — freaking heathens.
Besides eggs, Stubs is infamous for their daily sports trivia question. Knowing the answer will get you...ready for this?...a free PBR. Again, I wish I was kidding.
I could go on all day about all the things I love about this place, but if you're thirsty and in the neighborhood, give ol' Stubs a try; just sit upwind from the eggs.
